Easy DIY Zit Zapper (aka Blemish Roller)

Bethel here with Green Eyed Grace. I have had a few friends mention that I should do a video so I thought I would give it a shot!

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a licensed estheticians, do-it-yourselfer and small business owner. My motto is that if you cannot afford quality skin care products, then make them yourself!

Today I want to share with you HOW TO MAKE A BLEMISH ROLLER, or ZIT ZAPPER (which is more fun to say).

I like to make things as easy as possible so I put mine in a little glass essential oil roller.

The basic ingredients are:



50/50 vodka/witch hazel
1/8 dropper calendula
4 drops tea tree essential oil
3 drops lemon essential oil
2 drops frankincense essential oil

Why Vodka you ask? Because it’s awesome (hehe). No but seriously – Alcohol can act as a disinfectant for the skin, breakouts are caused by bacteria, so it can help cleanse the skin.

Many skin care companies will use rubbing alcohol for blemish control, which actually has poisons/toxins added to it because they do not want people walking around drinking rubbing alcohol. I am a lot more comfortable using Vodka because the less toxins on the skin the better.

Witch Hazel is actually shrub that acts as a natural astringent. The leaf, bark and twigs are used in a distillery process which gives us the amazing witch hazel astringent found in stores. You can get it at King Soopers or a natural type grocery store.

I like to use a Calendula extract because it is amazing for the skin. I get an organic calendula from Mountain Rose Herbs but you can also get it online or from a natural type grocery store.

The essential oils that I will be using are tea tree (or melaleuca) which is wonderful at helping repair the skin and kill bacteria, lemon which helps with cleansing and evening skin tone and frankincense which is one of my all time favorite essential oils because it has healing properties.

Together they make a wonderful roller that is highly affective.

I had a little zit pop up last night and rolled the zapper on there, it is already feeling better this morning. It is very nice for spot treatment. Try not to touch your face too much when you have a break out as it can spread bacteria and oil and cause more breakouts.

5 Things You May Not Know About Dandelions

One of the biggest marital arguments I have had have been over dandelions! I want to protect them and my husband wants to destroy them. It took many years of persuasion but I think he has come to understand how much I love the dandelion (or has decided it is not worth the argument hehe).

I do not just protect them because they are a flower, but because they have so many health benefits. My favorite benefit, of course, is that they help the skin. Additionally, they are great for cleansing the body. I try to enjoy a cup of dandelion root tea almost every day. It is a comfort to know all the benefits from just enjoying a cup of hot tea. Here are a few things you may not know about dandelions:

1. Repairs the Skin – Dandelion can be great at fighting skin infections. According to an article by Dr. Axe, the milky white substance that you get on your fingers when you break a dandelion stem is highly alkaline. Surprisingly, it also has germicidal, insecticidal and fungicidal properties.

You can actually also use the white sap of the stem and apply it directly to itchy or irritated skin caused by eczema, ringworm, psoriasis and other skin infections. The raw plant can help ease the itch and repair the skin.

2. Detox the Body – Dandelion tea can help with digestion (specifically dandelion ROOT tea). It has historically been used to improve appetite and ease minor digestive ailments. Dandelion tea can help balance the natural and beneficial bacteria in the intestines. It clears out waste in the kidneys and has been shown to assist in removing toxins from the liver.

3. Reduces Inflammation – Dandelion contain antioxidants, and phytonutrients that reduce inflammation throughout the body. Reducing inflammation in the body will help relieve pain and reduce swelling.

4. Boosts the Immune System – Dandelion has been shown to boost the immune system and fight off microbes and fungi. Dandelion is also high in antioxidants, fiber, calcium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin K and vitamin A which are all wonderful nutrients for the body.

5. It’s All Good – The entire dandelion is edible – the leaves, flowers, and roots. My favorite way to include dandelion into my family’s diet is dandelion root tea or tossing a few dandelion leaves into our salads.

If you want to try out dandelion make sure you are gathering them from an area that is completely free of pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals. Many times it is best to get them from your local natural grocer or buying it in tea or capsule form. My favorite dandelion tea at the moment is Traditional Medicinals’ Organic Roasted Dandelion Root Tea.

Give it a try and move closer to a healthier lifestyle. Just know that you may need to put your foot down to protect them in your yard!
