MY FAVORITE TABLE WINES ~ RED WINE IS GOOD FOR YOU

Since my early 30s, I have preferred a glass of red wine over any other adult drink. Many of my clients have asked which wines I prefer and why. Below are a few of my favorite table wines. I prefer dry reds (Cabernet and Merlot blends are my favorite) and primarily I choose organic. There is debate from many wine connoisseurs that it is unnecessary that the wines be organic because the grapes are sprayed before they start growing. However, from what I have researched, I feel that organic wine is a better choice. There is still a remaining chemical residue on the grapes and stems, no matter when the vineyard is sprayed.  These chemicals can have unknown long-term effects on our bodies.

REGULAR V. ORGANIC

Regular wine vineyards may use chemicals like herbicides and fungicides in their vineyards and other additives, like sulfur or mega purple. The most common wine preservative is sulphur dioxide (also known as sulphites), which is allowed in many wines, even organic wines in some countries. Thankfully, added sulphites are not allowed in certified organic wines in the United States.

Wines (both regular and organic) that do not have added sulphites are more rare because of their shortened shelf-life. This makes label reading especially important with your wines. Make sure your wines are certified organic or if nothing else at least made with organic grapes. No one should have to drink chemical residue in their wine. It should be pure and delicious.

GOOD NEWS!

Studies have shown that red wine, in moderation, can be good for your health. Red wine has many antioxidants that can be beneficial for the body.  Wine can also help reduce stress and even reduce cholesterol. As with anything, moderation is key. So enjoy a glass of wine, it is good for you!

HERE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE WINES (under $20 a bottle):

Frey Vineyards – Cabernet Sauvignon (Organic)
Bonterra – Merlot
Our Daily Red – Red Blend (Organic)

If you are a bargain shopper, like me, there is always Pure Red, Badger Mountain boxed wine, which is four bottles per box (for about $20). It has a nice mild fruity taste and is priced right.

All suggested wines are made with organic grapes. Frey, in my opinion, is the smoothest, best dinner wine. I hope you try one tonight!

DELICIOUS BEAUTY SMOOTHIE

An easy way to get some beneficial foods (for the skin) into the body is with a smoothie. This is one of my favorite beauty smoothie recipes! It makes about 3 smoothies so you can freeze 2 smoothies and enjoy later or just reduce the measurements to make 1 smoothie. I hope you love it as much as I do!

BEAUTY SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS:

1 1/4 cup organic frozen strawberries*
1/4 cup organic frozen blueberries*
1 small Clementine orange
1/2 avocado
A couple inches of organic cucumber
1 tablespoon organic ground flaxseed
1 1/2 cups coconut water
2 tablespoons almond butter**
2 cups ice
1 to 2 tablespoons raw local honey

I prefer all organic but only listed organic by the ones that I thought were most important.

*You do not have to use frozen berries. I prefer them because it is much easier than cutting and rinsing etc. But fresh would be even better for the body, so it’s your preference.

**If you have a nut allergy you can always substitute with sun butter or tahini.

Enjoy!

TROUBLE SLEEPING? TRY A SPICE OR TWO!

If you have trouble relaxing or falling asleep at night, this beauty drink is definitely something to try. Not only is it the perfect bedtime drink, it has some amazing health and beauty benefits as well. Have a cup of warm milk and relax at the end of your long day. The perfect alternative to taking a sleep aid. But also a great habit to have to promote good health!

SAFFRON
I cannot say enough good things about this beautiful spice. It is the most expensive spice but for a good reason.

These deep colored saffron “threads” come from the purple crocus flower. The threads contain a very high concentration of manganese. Manganese helps regulate blood sugar, metabolize carbohydrates, absorb calcium and has many other benefits as well.

Fortunately, a little saffron goes a long way. It is a spice to be added one thread at a time. Just a thread or two can flavor and color an entire pot of rice.

Saffron has been used medicinally to reduce fevers, cramps and enlarged livers, and to calm nerves. It has also been used externally to for bruises, rheumatism, and neuralgia. A powerful antioxidant. It is believed to help prevent disease, detox the body, act as a pain reliever, anti-depressant, sleep aid, and provide radiant skin.

TURMERIC
One of my favorite spices! Just ask my husband. Many of my meals have a strange yellow color to them (also how curry gets its color) because I add turmeric to as many dishes as I can.

It has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb.Contains compounds known as curcuminoids, the most important of which is curcumin, which have been proven to have medicinal properties. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. However, it is tough to absorb in the body. Surprisingly, black pepper assists with absorption. Which is why, many times, you see pepper in recipes with turmeric.

Its roots as well as leaves have long been used in traditional Indian and Chinese medicines for their demonstrated anti-inflammatory, painkiller, anti-oxidant, and anti-cancer properties.

Turmeric is used for a variety of ailments including relaxation, pain, stomach trouble and colds. But it is also great for the skin!

BLACK PEPPER
Black pepper is mostly thought of a way to add flavor to our every day foods. But it actually has a lot of benefits too. It can help with bloating and gas, detox for the body and has antioxidant and antibacterial effects. So why not put it on everything?

CARDAMOM

This exotic spice contains many compounds that are believed to act as an antioxidant, prevent disease and promote better health. Also helps to detox the body and thought to alleviate depression.

CINNAMON
Cinnamon is a sweet spice that improves the taste of many delicious foods, like Cinnamon Rolls, but it is also great for your health. Lab studies have found that cinnamon may reduce inflammation, have antioxidant effects and fight bacteria. It also might be helpful for allergies, Alzheimer’s and yeast infections.

This blend of amazing spices help the body relax, promote sleep and can promote better health. I personally prefer organic spices and feel that the taste and quality is better when I use organic. Get the recipe HERE! I hope you love it💛
