DELICIOUS GREEN SMOOTHIE ~ FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

I think my son may be one of the pickiest eaters in the world. Seriously. He is very particular about texture and taste and prefers mostly crunchy crackers and fruit. It has been a huge challenge getting him to eat balanced meals. Thankfully over the last couple years I have figured out a few ways to sneak nutrient dense foods into his diet. I began making this green smoothie for him about a year ago.

It started out as just a shake – I mixed his almond milk with a protein powder, which he hesitantly accepted. However protein powders are high in sugar and don’t always have the best ingredients, especially for children. Because of that, I started messing around with blending different foods to see what I could get him to drink. I cannot tell you how many shakes I had to dump down the drain because he refused them! But I finally figured one out that worked great, not only for him but for our ENTIRE FAMILY. Every morning now we all drink this green smoothie to start our day off right. I am including an easy recipe as well, for those of you that prefer a very simple shake. As a working parent, I understand not having a ton of time.

The trick to making this shake extra foamy and delicious is to blend a little longer than you would a normal shake. The coconut water and avocado make it foam up and the family loves it!

ADVANCED RECIPE BUT MORE DELICIOUS:

3 whole bananas peeled
1/2 ripe avocado
3/4 cups baby spinach rinsed
1 teaspoon organic ground flax seed
1 tablespoon pure almond butter
1 1/2 cup pure coconut water
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 tablespoon of raw organic coconut oil or 1 1/2 teaspoons raw honey (not for children under the age of one)
4-5 ice cubes

(Makes about 3 shakes)

EASY RECIPE:

3 whole bananas peeled
1/2 ripe avocado
3/4 cup baby spinach rinsed
2 1/2  cups original almond milk
4-5 ice cubes
