WHY COFFEE & TEA IN A SERUM?
Coffee and green tea both contain caffeine which can help stimulate the skin. They also contain antioxidants which can help protect the skin and slow aging. I originally created a coffee serum for under eye treatment. Primarily, to combat puffiness and dark circles. However, I loved the results of the coffee eye serum so much that I began using it as a full facial serum. This facial serum helps fight acne, discoloration, puffiness and makes my skin nice and smooth.
THE BENEFITS OF CAFFEINE IN SKINCARE
Not only is caffeine helpful at stimulating the skin by increasing blood flow, it can also help with discoloration. Green tea contains vitamin K which can help with dark circles. If you have sensitive or fair skin, or suffer from allergies, you may be more prone to dark circles under the eyes. Thankfully there are natural solutions, such as a coffee serum.
Green tea has anti-inflammatory elements which can be very helpful with eye puffiness. Green tea also contains polyphenols (catechins) which have therapeutic effects. Catechins are anti-bacterial agents that suppress acne-causing bacteria. Coffee can also reduce inflammation and redness. The two ingredients together can give some amazing results. Try the serum for yourself.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon ground coffee
- 1 tablespoon loose green tea
- 1/4 cup grapeseed oil
- 1 tablespoon almond oil
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
- 10 drops chamomile essential oil
Instructions
- Heat the above ingredients (except essential oils) on very low heat for about 5 minutes.
- Stir the mixture frequently.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture sit for about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how strong you want your mixture.
- Strain by using a coffee filter and letting the oil slowly drip through into a separate container (a tall glass works well).
- The oil takes several minutes to go through the coffee filter because it is so thick. But this is the best way I have found to strain the mixture well.
- Add the lemon and chamomile essential oils to the strained oil mixture. Lemon is great for brightening the skin. Chamomile calms the skin and can help with breakouts. These two essential oils together are my favorite blend for the coffee serum.
- Transfer into a 2 ounce glass dropper bottle or two 1 oz glass dropper bottles.
HOW TO USE
Every evening put about a half dropper amount into the palm of your hands. Rub your hands together and apply evenly all over your face and decollete area.
MAKE A COFFEE EYE CREAM
You can use the coffee facial serum as an eye serum. However, I found that having a thicker eye cream is more beneficial. It is so easy to make. Give it a try!
INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons of the coffee facial serum
1 teaspoon of beeswax
DIRECTIONS
Heat beeswax on very low heat until completely melted. Pour into little containers. Let cool for several hours or let sit overnight.
HOW TO USE
Apply the coffee eye cream every evening before bed. Pay special attention to the under eye area and outside corners. Apply gently.
Enjoy!

Do you use a preservative in this? And if not do you know what the shelf life would be as I’m making some home made gifts for family which appeared an easy and simple thing to do but now I’m worried about preserving.

Hi there! Since there is no water in this recipe it should give you a shelf life of several months but you could add a little vitamin E to extend the shelf life a little further. I don’t like adding preservatives to homemade products because it makes them less nourishing for the skin. This is a great product to make as a gift but you may want to warn those receiving that it is more natural and to use it up quickly. Hope this helps!

Hello there! You can definitely reduce the wax or just use the oil under the eyes. Whatever you prefer 🙂

Hi there! Will this help with my hyperpigmentation after acne?❤

Yes, this should help with hyperpigmentation after acne. 🙂

If I add vitamin E oil… It can be store for a year?
greeneyedgrace@yahoo.com says
Adding vitamin E oil can help with shelf life but how long the serum will last depends on the quality and shelf life of the other ingredients as well. If it smells rancid at all, toss it 🙂
