Zit zappers (or blemish rollers) are a quick and easy way to treat little breakouts. Often we will get an annoying pimple after having too much junk food or neglecting our skin during summer vacation. With a handy blemish roller, you can clear up these little breakouts quickly.

HOW THE INGREDIENTS CLEAR UP BLEMISHES

There are a few ingredients that seem to be pretty effective in treating annoying zits. Some of them might surprise you, like alcohol, but topically! Let me explain…

VODKA (or a cheap alcohol) – I know it may seem odd, but alcohol can act as a disinfectant for the skin. Breakouts are usually caused by bacteria, so vodka can help cleanse and disinfect the skin.  Some skin care companies use rubbing alcohol for blemish control. However, rubbing alcohol can contain added toxins. As we know, any ingredient you put on your skin can be absorbed into the body. Therefore, try to make sure all your skincare ingredients are as natural as possible.

WITCH HAZEL – Interestingly, witch hazel is a shrub that when processed, acts as a natural astringent. The leaf, bark and twigs are used in a distillery process which gives us the amazing witch hazel astringent found in stores. You can typically purchase witch hazel at a super market.

CALENDULA OR WHITE WILLOW BARK EXTRACT (Optional) – Calendula calms irritation and is known to help repair the skin. However, another great ingredient to use is white willow bark extract, which is an anti-inflammatory and can reduce redness of the skin. You can find these extracts online or from a natural type grocery store.

ESSENTIAL OILS – Tea tree essential oil helps repair the skin and kills bacteria. Lemon essential oil cleanses and evens out skin tone. Frankincense essential oil (one of my all time favorites) has healing properties that help repair the skin.

Give it a try!

MY FAVORITE TIP FOR CLEAR SKIN

Try not to touch your face too much when you have a break out as it can spread bacteria and oil, causing more breakouts. So if you have to mess with your skin, make sure to have clean hands!
