USING NATURAL DEODORANTS

When I learned that many store-bought deodorants contain ingredients, I wasn’t comfortable putting on my skin, I decided it was time to make my own. It definitely wasn’t a perfect process and there was plenty of trial and error along the way! Below you will find an all-natural deodorant that not only works well but also has a smooth, easy-to-apply consistency. I’m excited to share this recipe with you so you can make a safer, natural deodorant at home too!

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons Raw Organic Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 Cup + 1 Tablespoon Pure Baking Soda *
  • 1/2 Cup Pure Arrow Root (Starch/Flour) *
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Organic Beeswax
  • 10-15 Drops Essential Oils (Wild Orange, Tea Tree (melaleuca)** or Ylang Ylang** are good to use. (I like Tea Tree Essential Oil because it has a fresh scent, is anti-bacterial and healing. However, it can also be a little strong.)
  • * I used Bob's Red Mill
  • ** Can cause skin irritation if used in excess or have extremely sensitive skin

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a pot
  2. Heat on low heat until everything is mixed well and melted
  3. Do not overheat
  4. Let cool slightly in pan, then pour into deodorant containers
  5. Put containers in the refrigerator for about 4 hours or let sit overnight before using
  6. Do not worry that it is runny after heating, it will set up very nice after it sits for a while as instructed above.

I bought empty deodorant containers on Amazon. A few essential oil recommendations for making men’s deodorant are Yang ylang and tea tree. For women’s deodorant I like to use wild orange and lemon as it gives it a fresh, citrus scent.

Reblogged this on half-priced hippie and commented:
Another like-minded individual not putting up with what’s out there just because it’s there. This deodorant recipe is the only one that’s worked for me so far and it’s got a great consistency unlike a lot of others that require a makeup brush, two or more steps or keeping it in the fridge. I’m sold for life.

Do you have a suggestion for what to use instead of beeswax?

      Hello there!
You can use pure Shea butter but it does not turn out quite the same and you have to work with the ingredients a bit. I was not happy with the consistency with Shea but it can work. I’m still in the process of trying a new formula that has either less or no beeswax but I don’t have it perfected yet. As soon as I get it down I will share:) If you try the recipe with Shea, please let me know what you think. Thanks and have a great week!
