What Is Sea Buckthorn Oil?

Sea buckthorn oil has been used for thousands of years as a natural remedy for various ailments, including irritated or troubled skin.

The name can be deceiving as these little berries do not grow in the sea. They can, however, be found growing on shrubs in coastal and mountainous regions of Asia and Europe. Sea buckthorn has also been referred to as sea berry or as the holy fruit of the Himalayas. It can be applied to the skin or ingested.

There are Two Types of Oils

There are two types of sea buckthorn oil that can be extracted from the shrub – fruit oil and seed oil. The fruit oil is taken from the fleshy pulp of the berries, while the seed oil is extracted from the small seeds. Fruit oil is generally a dark reddish orange color that has a syrup-like texture, whereas the seed oil is a light orange color that is thinner. While both offer amazing skin benefits, sea buckthorn berry oil has been known to be a little better at targeting skin problems such as eczema and acne.

The Benefits

Sea buckthorn has anti-inflammatory properties which is helpful for skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea or acne. Once applied, this amazing oil can prevent future flare ups, help fade scars and give your skin a smoother appearance. Sea buckthorn oil can increase moisture for dry skin and help your skin heal from various injuries such as burns, frostbite or irritation. It also has the ability to heal blemishes without drying out the skin.

It Has Amazing Properties

Rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, vitamin E and other bio-active nutrients, sea buckthorn will nourish the skin and protect it from free radicals that can cause skin damage. Additionally, it contains quercetin, a flavonoid which appears to help kill cancer cells.

Get It In Your Skin Care Products

It may seem like no surprise that we like to use sea buckthorn oil in our Twenty-Four Karat Oil Serum which targets aging and troubled skin, the Pure and Gentle Body Oil for the entire body and the Soothing Skin Ointment for injured skin.

Use this beautiful ingredient in an amazing skin care product listed above, or on its own (mixed with a carrier oil) to target breakouts and irritation. You cannot beat the benefits!
