According to https://billygraham.org/answer/what-is-the-apostles-creed/ the Apostles creed was not written by the apostles, however it is known to be one of the oldest summaries of beliefs of the Christian church (around 140 A.D.). Though the exact wording is not in our scriptures, it still lines up with scripture.

A few things to know about the Apostles’ Creed:

1. The meaning of the word ‘catholic’ used in the creed, describes the universal church of Jesus Christ, not the Roman Catholic Church.
2. The line – ‘He descended into hell’ was not included in the earliest documents found but must have been added at a later date.
