DIY LAVENDER BODY BUTTER
The DIY Lavender Body Butter is one of my favorite recipes because it is so nourishing to the skin during the winter months! It is also helpful for cracked hands and feet and can be used for eczema break-outs, including those who have sensitive skin. This recipe turns out a little bit like a salve and is much easier to make than the ‘whipped’ body butter recipes out there.
Check out the how-to video:
Ingredients
- 1/4 Cup Shea Butter
- 1/2 Cup Grapeseed Oil
- 1/4 Cup Almond Oil*
- 1 Tablespoon Rosehip Seed Oil
- 2 Tablespoon Beeswax**
- 1 Teaspoon Vitamin E
- 1/4 Teaspoon Xanthan Gum
- 1/8 Teaspoon Sea Buckthorn Oil (optional)
- 10 Drops Lavender Essential Oil (optional)
- 7 Drops Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (optional)
- *You can substitute any of the oils if you have an allergy or prefer a different oil. The oils I would recommend are reflected in the recipe. However, fractionated coconut oil, apricot oil, jojoba oil, olive oil or sunflower oil can be substituted. I would not recommend substituting the Shea butter as it keeps the body butter at the right consistency.
- **I prefer the beeswax pellets because they are easier to work with.
Instructions
- Heat all ingredients (except the xanthan gum and essential oils) on low heat until completely melted.
- Let the mixture cool for a few minutes and then stir in xanthan gum.
- Once xanthan gum is completely dissolved, add in essential oils.
- I love the Lavender/Ylang Ylang blend best. It is a calming and smells pretty.
- Pour into desired containers.
- Let completely set and cool (about 3 hours).
