WHAT ARE FEVER BLISTERS?
Fever blisters (also known as cold sores) are tiny little bumps that occur on and around the mouth area. Often they are filled with fluid and can be somewhat painful. Unfortunately, fever blister outbreaks can be very noticeable and difficult to cover up. Sometimes they can spread and become quite large and bothersome.
Fever Blisters (technically known as Herpes Labialis) effect approximately 3 million Americans each year! It is a highly contagious virus that can be spread by sharing drinks or close physical contact, such as kissing. If you happen to suffer from these outbreaks, here are a couple easy DIY recipes to speed up recovery.
WHY USE NATURAL INGREDIENTS?
There are a few amazing ingredients that can move recovery along, such as turmeric, vanilla, coconut oil, honey, tea tree and peppermint essential oil. Using a natural remedy is a wonderful alternative to some of the harsh chemical products out there. Especially if you have a young teen at home fighting this virus and are hesitant to give them a strong prescription. Of course, if you suffer from chronic, painful cold sores, and have not found relief, it would be good to discuss with a trusted physician. I love these alternatives because they are easy and inexpensive to make at home.
Turmeric and honey have anti-inflammatory properties that can be very helpful for any type of minor blemish or minor injury to the skin. Coconut oil, peppermint essential oil and tea tree essential oil (also known as melaleuca) have amazing anti-bacterial benefits that can help kill infection. I have chosen two recipes that I love using because they taste and smell great. The third recipe is from a dear friend of mine. She has been making this home remedy for a family member and they have seen great results! Thank you Amy, with Simply Refined, for letting me share your recipe as well!
