Have you ever wondered why so many people love Valentine’s Day? Is it the chocolate hearts, wine, balloons, jewelry, the cheaply made stuffed animals?
Probably not. The primary reason so many love this candy-heart filled holiday, is because it makes them feel special.
Being Fully Known
We all long for a person to completely know who we are deep inside and still love who we are. If a person truly loves us, with a perfect love, they will fulfill our hearts desire, whether that be with gifts or action.
Receiving a person’s time, gifts, praise or service, makes us feel loved. But are humans capable of such perfection when we are so incredibly flawed?
God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
There is only one who can fill the void of emptiness that both men and women feel. That person is Jesus. He knows us to our innermost being.
My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139:15-16
Jesus is Perfection
Humans are not capable of loving the way Jesus does. A spouse or a friend is not able to fulfill our hearts desire – because they are human and they mess up. We are all guilty of being selfish, rude, forgetful or oblivious every once in a while. No human is perfect. We can only cling to Jesus and ask Him to help us to be more like Him. Jesus can help us through our burdens and troubles. He heals our brokenness and hard hearts.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3
Jesus is perfection. He may not be here in the flesh but He is still among us, living inside us and protecting and guiding us.
Jesus is the perfect valentine.
If we abide in the love of Jesus – He promises to never leave us, to LOVE us, give us everlasting life and comfort. His promises are more valuable than rubies. Seek His love and cling to Him, not the world.
The Bride
Those who believe in Jesus are referred to as His bride. That is how close God wants us to be to Him.
I will betroth you to Me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord.
Hosea 2:19-20
One day soon, Jesus will return for us (His bride) to take us to be with Him.
Let us rejoice and exult and give Him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His Bride has made herself ready.
Revelation 19:7
We are wired to desire love. To love and to be loved. Sadly, our broken world distorts love, making us think we can experience perfect love through our possessions, status or people. This is the enemy’s lie to pull us away from our loving Savior.
You Are Loved
Jesus wants us to feel loved. When we stay close to Him and spend time with Him, we begin to understand this love, because He changes our heart and our perspective. Just like when you spend enough time with someone, you begin to model them. You begin to know and understand them in a deeper way.
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.
James 4:8
Jesus is perfect. He knows us fully. God created us and positioned Jesus as our Savior. Only He can give us what we need. Thankfully, He is always by our side.
I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Hebrews 13:5
Quality Time
Beloved, do you feel a tugging at your heart to know more about Jesus? That is Jesus wanting to spend time with you. Read His word, pray to Him, surround yourself with His presence by listening to worship music and talking to Him daily. Stay in His presence by removing sin from your life. Jesus will not force you to spend time with Him, but make no mistake, He longs to be close to you. So, turn, turn away from things of the world that can never fill the void in your heart. Only Jesus can do that.
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
Revelation 22:17
May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord shine His face upon you.
Maranatha – Come Lord Jesus!
