WHY ARE VITAMINS SO IMPORTANT IN SKIN CARE?
Vitamins nourish the skin and help maintain the function of the skin. Certain vitamins, specifically A, C, and E, and folic acid are considered the antioxidant vitamins. These vitamins are not produced naturally by the body, so they must be consumed through diet or supplementation. Vitamins C and E are a couple of our favorite!
Vitamin C
This is an important antioxidant that is a key component in collagen synthesis. Vitamin C also plays a role in wound healing and inflammation. When free-radicals break down collagen, fibers lose elasticity and wrinkling begins to happen. One of the best ways to deliver vitamins to your skin is through topical creams. The other, is through eating fruits and vegetables. Lemons and citrus fruits are a great source of Vitamin C. At Green Eyed Grace, we love using citrus in our products!
Vitamin E
Vitamin E, also known as tocopherol, is one of the most popular antioxidants. The application of Vitamin E to the skin has been shown to help boost collagen and help to reduce sun damage. Some studies show that approximately 80% of the signs of aging are caused by sun damage!
There is evidence that Vitamin C and E are more powerful when applied together. So just imagine the wonders this duo will do for your skin.
ANTIOXIDANTS
Antioxidants are complex molecules that help protect cells from damage by breaking free radical chain reactions. When Antioxidants are applied to the skin, it helps to reverse the effects of sun damage.
FREE RADICALS
Free radicals are unstable atoms that enter into a destructive chemical bond with organic substances such as proteins. This results in oxidation. One example of oxidation in nature is when an apple or avocado turns brown after being cut. When you apply lemon juice onto the cut apple or avocado the browning is minimal. For free radicals to become more stable, they will take electrons from other atoms. This may cause diseases or signs of aging. Thankfully, antioxidants can help!
Here is a simple diagram to show how antioxidants and free radicals respond to each other:
As you can see, antioxidants are extremely important for overall health and can slow the aging process. Green Eyed Grace has several products that are packed with antioxidants and vitamins! Here are a few to consider:

One important thing to keep in mind when using citrus and vitamin C in your products is that it can cause sun sensitivity. Therefore, avoid being in the sun while wearing certain products. Many products with large quantities of citrus extracts and oils should be applied primarily at bedtime.
