TEA TREE OIL
Tea tree oil is widely used in skin skin care. This healing oil is considered effective in treating various skin trouble, such as acne, dandruff and skin rashes. It has natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory benefits, making it a fundamental beauty necessity.
Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil, is made from steam distillation of leaves from the melaleuca alternifolia tree. This tree or shrub is part of the myrtle family, which is native to Australia. It has a crisp camphoraceous odor and has been widely used throughout Australia for centuries. Numerous medical studies have shown tea tree oil eliminates many strains of bacteria, viruses and fungi. It is also well-known for its powerful antiseptic properties and ability to treat wounds.
Skin care uses for Tea Tree include:
• Acne
• Psoriasis
• Sores and Boils
• Sunburns
Tea tree oil is highly effective on acne and breakouts. A breakout of the skin can easily become infected or inflamed. Applying tea tree oil can help eliminate bacteria and heal the skin.
CALENDULA
Calendula is a beautiful delicate flower. Brilliant in color and containing many benefits for the skin and body. The calendula flower is part of the marigold family. Specifically, 15-20 different species of pot marigold commonly found throughout Western Europe, the Mediterranean region, and parts of Southern Asia. However, in Colorado we are more familiar with the French Marigold (Tagetes) varieties. These marigolds are a common garden flower, mainly used to ward off insects. They are brightly sprinkled throughout our flower gardens to add color and variety. The French Marigold (Tagetes) is different than the Pot Marigold (Calendula) which is described herein.
Calendula is edible and used in a variety of recipes. Most French Marigold varieties are not edible and do not possess the same healing properties for skin care. Calendula is a common herbal remedy used in many skin preparations. The common name “marigold” refers to the Virgin Mary. Most likely, it was given this name in the 14th century. Marigold was an important ingredient in the ancient recipe used in fighting the plague. One of the most impressive skin care benefits of calendula is its ability to quickly heal the skin.
Skin care uses for Calendula include:
• Cuts and Scrapes
• Inflammation
• Circulation
• Irritation and Dryness
• Brightening
• Acne
A BEAUTIFUL COMBINATION
Together, Calendula and Tea Tree Oil, can be highly beneficial for irritated or acneic skin. When combined with other amazing oils they can be very healing and reverse the damage that our skin endures. Give these two amazing ingredients a try in your skin care remedies and recipes. I prefer a pure tea tree essential oil and a calendula extract. I like to use them together when making facial serums for troubled or dry skin. Here is a link to a basic oil serum that you could easily include one or both beneficial ingredients.
