ACTIVATED CHARCOAL IN SKIN CARE
Activated charcoal has become a standout ingredient in natural skincare and for good reason. While it is commonly used as a dietary supplement and is well known for its ability to safely bind to and remove ingested toxins in emergency medical settings, its unique properties also make it highly effective in skincare.
Thanks to its incredibly porous structure, activated charcoal acts like a magnet, attracting and trapping dirt, excess oil, bacteria, toxins and other impurities. When applied to the skin, it helps draw debris from clogged pores and remove bacteria that can contribute to blemishes, leaving the skin feeling deeply cleansed and refreshed.
Charcoal masks are especially beneficial for those with oily or acne-prone skin, as they help purify, detoxify and reduce excess oil without harsh ingredients. Regular use can leave your complexion looking clearer, smoother and more balanced.
ACTIVATED CHARCOAL V. BBQ CHARCOAL
Activated charcoal is NOT the same charcoal in your barbecue grill. Barbecue charcoal is loaded with toxins and chemicals and is not safe to consume. Activated charcoal is a substance made from bone char, coconut shells, petroleum and/or coal. The substance is then oxidized using steam or air, at high temperatures. This process gives it a medicinal property, as it becomes very porous and is able to absorb toxins. I prefer a more natural form of activated charcoal, such as one made from coconut shells. The purer, the better! Read the ingredients on your products and look for products that contain pure ingredients with minimal chemicals. Below is a simple DIY skin clearing mask recipe for you. Your skin will thank you!
