DETOX FOR YOUR FEET?

Foot soaks, containing salts and minerals, are so fun to make. Not to mention, they offer instant relaxation. Many who use mineral salts for detox baths, report relief from aches and pains, reduced inflammation, improve circulation and healing of a variety of ailments. Epsom and Himalayan Sea Salts have been used for centuries for different health remedies.  However, I wanted to take a deeper look at how a simple foot detox can be beneficial.

THE INGREDIENTS

The three ingredients I like to use in my foot soaks are Epsom Salt, Magnesium Flakes and Himalayan Sea Salts. I like to combine them together as I believe they all offer benefits in a different way. Epsom salts are crystals of hydrated magnesium sulfate used for sore muscles, body aches, laxatives or medical use. Magnesium flakes (or salts) are Magnesium Chloride. Even though Epsom salts are a form of magnesium, the magnesium flakes have a different molecular structure. Magnesium Chloride is able to be absorbed into the body much easier than Epsom salts, making the effects much more intense. Himalayan sea salt is a red rock salt mined in Pakistan. The red rock salt contains a great amount of natural minerals that the body loves to soak up. Soaking in these salts can help balance the body’s PH levels and aid in detox.

THE BENEFITS

Magnesium deficiency in the body can often lead to foot and leg cramps. These muscle spasms can be annoying and painful. A refreshing detox foot bath allows for magnesium absorption through the skin. Topical magnesium has personally helped my own aches and pains. I often use detox bath salts for my whole body, especially if I have sore muscles or am fighting a cold. In my opinion, the bath salts and foot soaks relax muscles and lessen discomfort. For that reason, I use them often.

HOW TO USE

Pour about 6 cups of warm water into a basin, large enough for your feet. Add 2 or 3 Tablespoons of the Refreshing Detox Salt mix into the water and let dissolve. Relax and soak feet for about 10 minutes. Remove feet and dry them off.

You can also add stones at the bottom of the basin and/or petals to float at the top. It is fun to be creative with different recipes. I love the peppermint essential oil mixture above, as it leaves my feet a little tingly. However, there are so many options to try, such as lavender and vanilla or rose. You will want to use your detox salts rather quickly, within a week or so. The magnesium flakes have a tendency to dissolve when mixed with essential oils.

This is a really nice way to end an evening. It promotes relaxation and can help bring a restful evening.
