DETOX FOR YOUR FEET?

Foot soaks are one of those simple little luxuries that offer a moment of much-needed relaxation. Made with mineral-rich salts, they’re an easy way to unwind, soothe tired feet, and create a calming experience at home.

Epsom salt and Himalayan sea salt have been used for centuries in a variety of traditional health and wellness practices. Many people turn to mineral salt baths and soaks to help ease everyday aches and discomfort, support circulation and promote an overall sense of well-being.

But beyond the relaxing experience, let’s take a closer look at what makes a simple foot soak so appealing and whether a “foot detox” can truly offer the benefits so many people claim.

THE INGREDIENTS

The three ingredients I prefer in my foot soaks are Epsom Salt, Magnesium Flakes and Himalayan Sea Salts. Together, they offer a combination of unique benefits. Epsom salts are crystals of hydrated magnesium sulfate used for sore muscles, body aches, laxatives or medical use. Magnesium flakes (or salts) are Magnesium Chloride and even though Epsom salts are a form of magnesium, the magnesium flakes have a different molecular structure. Magnesium Chloride is able to be absorbed into the body much easier than Epsom salts, making the effects much more intense. Himalayan sea salt is a red rock salt mined in Pakistan. The red rock salt contains a great amount of natural minerals that the body loves to soak up. Soaking in these salts can help balance the body’s PH levels and aid in detox.

MUSCLE CRAMP REDUCTION

Magnesium deficiency in the body can often lead to foot and leg cramps. These muscle spasms can be annoying and painful. A refreshing detox foot bath allows for magnesium absorption through the skin. Topical magnesium has personally helped my own aches and pains. I often use detox bath salts for my whole body, especially if I have sore muscles or am fighting a cold. In my opinion, the bath salts and foot soaks relax muscles and lessen discomfort. For that reason, I use them often.

However, it’s good to remember that God is our true healer. As with any treatment, I pray for God’s healing and ask for His guidance, for He is God and can do anything. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. Psalm 30:2

HOW TO USE

Pour about 6 cups of warm water into a basin, large enough for your feet. Add 2 or 3 Tablespoons of the Refreshing Detox Salt mix into the water and let dissolve. Relax and soak feet for about 10 minutes. Remove feet and dry them off.

You can also add petals to float at the top to make it pretty and be creative. Try different essential oil blends to find your favorite. I love the peppermint essential oil mixture above, as it leaves my feet a little tingly. However, there are so many options to try, such as lavender and vanilla or rose. This is a really nice way to end an evening. It promotes relaxation and can help bring a restful evening.

USE IT UP

You will want to use your detox salts rather quickly, within a week or so. The magnesium flakes have a tendency to dissolve when mixed with essential oils.
